<br /> DES:d-i"k;. 01/16/90 (032/7) <br /> or'!f'"'!"! 1\ I <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 2010 <br /> --------- <br />ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23.7 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO ELIGIBLE LISTS AND <br />SELECTION OF APPOINTEES IN THE COMPETITIVE SERVICE <br />THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, DOES ORDAIN AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1. Section 23.7 of the Code of the City of Redwood <br />City is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> "Section 23.7. Eligible Lists; Selection of <br />Appointees. Persons appointed to the competitive service <br />shall be selected from applicants whose names have been <br />placed on eligible lists in the order of their relative <br />merit as determined by competitive examinations. Except as <br />hereinafter provided, appointments to positions in the <br />competitive service shall be made from the first three (3)- <br />named applicants on an eligible list established for a <br />position classification who are ready and willing to accept <br />the position offered. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any <br />person who: <br /> (i) has successfully completed the competitive <br /> examination for appointment to positions within <br /> the classifications of police officer, police <br /> sergeant, or fire fighter; or <br /> (ii) has successfully completed a training program <br /> established by the city with respect to a <br /> classification within which such person seeks <br /> appointment to a position, to provide <br /> affirmatively equal employment opportunity for <br /> members of races, nationalities, ethnic and <br /> cultural groups, who have been denied historically <br /> in the United States such opportunities because of <br /> such race, nationality, or ethnic or cultural <br /> background, <br /> ..-..-.......,,-. <br />
