DES:d-i"k;. 01/16/90 (032/7) or'!f'"'!"! 1\ I ORDINANCE NO. 2010 --------- ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23.7 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY RELATING TO ELIGIBLE LISTS AND SELECTION OF APPOINTEES IN THE COMPETITIVE SERVICE THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 23.7 of the Code of the City of Redwood City is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 23.7. Eligible Lists; Selection of Appointees. Persons appointed to the competitive service shall be selected from applicants whose names have been placed on eligible lists in the order of their relative merit as determined by competitive examinations. Except as hereinafter provided, appointments to positions in the competitive service shall be made from the first three (3)- named applicants on an eligible list established for a position classification who are ready and willing to accept the position offered. Notwithstanding the foregoing, any person who: (i) has successfully completed the competitive examination for appointment to positions within the classifications of police officer, police sergeant, or fire fighter; or (ii) has successfully completed a training program established by the city with respect to a classification within which such person seeks appointment to a position, to provide affirmatively equal employment opportunity for members of races, nationalities, ethnic and cultural groups, who have been denied historically in the United States such opportunities because of such race, nationality, or ethnic or cultural background, ..-..-.......,,-.
