<br />r <br /> <br />it <br />~~ , <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />\- <br /> <br />PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF TUESDAY, JULY 11,1989 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairman Swope, Vice-chairman Weiss, Commissioners <br />Davis, Howard, Nordness and Slusser <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />STAFF PRESENT: <br /> <br />Commissioner Mortensen <br /> <br />City Manager Smith, Planning Director Patterson, <br />Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director <br />Griffiths and Secretary Frei <br /> <br />Chairman Swope called the regular meeting of the Park and Recreation <br />Commission to order at 7:40 p.m. in the Community Activities Building, 1400 <br />Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. The minutes of the June 24,1989 <br />meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> <br />ITEM 1 - GENERAL PLAN DISCUSSION <br /> <br />City Manager Smith and Planning Director Joel Patterson gave an overview of <br />the Cityls comprehensive General Plan, the Strategic Plan, and departmental <br />implementaion plan. General discussion followed. <br /> <br />Mr. Smith and Planning Director Patterson said their doors are open at any <br />time to discuss the Strategic Plan. <br /> <br />,I <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - MEETING DATE CHANGE <br /> <br />The Commission is considering permanently changing the date of the regularly <br />scheduled meetings. The August meeting will be Wednesday, August 9, 1989, <br />the September meeting will be September 20, and from then on the meeting date <br />will be changed to the third Wednesday of each month. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 - COUNCIL/COMMISSION PARK TOUR <br /> <br />Saturday, October 14,1989 has been tentatively decided on for the annual <br />Council/Commission Park Tour. The September 9 date discussed earlier has <br />been cancelled due to a holiday on the Friday before. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 - WAYS TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE PUBLIC <br /> <br />The Planning Committee met in July and formulated ideas for developing an <br />annual calendar for the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. <br />The idea ;s that the Commissioners could be more informed and plan ahead. <br />This would be important in attempts to educate the general public! How to <br />communicate with the public will require more thought. - <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />Monthly Reports <br /> <br />The July monthly reports will be discussed at the next meeting as the <br />Commission was not given time to review them. <br />
