RJC.ek 3/31/64-7 <br />R E S 0 L U T I O N N 0. 4i2l: t <br />RESOLUTION ENDORSING RECOMMENDATIONS OF NORTHERN <br />CALIFORNIA MARINE AFFAIRS CONFERENCE <br />WHEREAS, the major population increase and growth of its <br />labor force continues in Northern California, and requires <br />maximum increase of economic activity to sustain and absorb these <br />constantly expanding numbers of people; and, <br />WHEREAS, deepwater harbors and connecting channels, and in- <br />land navigable waterways, have proven of inestimable importance <br />in the economical development of commerce and exploitation of <br />natural resources; and, <br />WHEREAS, creation of coastal harbors of refuge and other <br />multipurpose smaller harbors are deemed essential to meet the <br />operating needs of our commercial fishing industry, growing barge <br />traffic and burgeoning recreational boating; and, <br />WHEREAS, our region's foreign commerce reached almost <br />$1,500,000,000 last year and represented only a portion of the <br />activity generated by our navigable waterway system; and, <br />WHEREAS, the region has assigned to the Northern California <br />Marine Affairs Conference responsibility to annually study, re- <br />view and recommend projects to provide for the orderly and <br />efficient maintenance, expansion and improvement of our waterways; <br />NOW, THEREFORE; <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br />That the Conference's recommendations for Congressional <br />appropriations for the fiscal year of 1965 are hereby endorsed <br />and supported; and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, <br />That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the Honorable <br />J. Arthur Younger, United States Representative, the Honorable <br />
