'1'he title of Chapte r 18 of the Code of .the Ci.ty of ~{edwood City is amended to read: llChapter 18. Local Improvements and Planning." SECTION 2. Articles X and XI are hereby added to Chapter 18 of ele Code of the City of Redwood City to read as follows: "Article X. Authori,ty for General Plans. "Section 18.55 '1'he Planning Commission shall reCO:lil- :':lend and the City Council shall adopt a comprehensive long- te:c:n General Plan for the physical development of the ci,ty I and of any la:"ld outside its boundaries which bears rela'tion to its planning. The plan shall be referred to as the General Plan and may include supporting maps, diagrams, charts, descriptive material and reports. "Section 18.56 The General Plan may be so prepared that all or individual elements of it may be adopted, and so that iJc ,nay be adopted for all or part of the territory of the City and such other territory outside its boundaries, as bears a re lationship to '.:11e ci,ty' s planning. "Section 18.57 The General plan shall consist of a map and a statement describing it and a s.tatedent covering objectives, principles, and standards used to develop it, and shall include the following elemen'ts: II (a) A land use element which designates t:he proposed general distribution and general location and extent of .the uses oE the land for housing I business, indus'try, and other categories of pub- lic and private uses of land.
