ATTY/RESO.0034/PC RESO 935 DURLSTON ROAD
REV: 05-27-21 VR
RESOLUTION NO. 2-0 3
A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
REDWOOD CITY APPROVING THE ARCHITECTURAL PERMIT
NO.2019-070 FOR 935 DURLSTON ROAD IN ACCORDANCE WITH
CHAPTER 40 OF THE REDWOOD CITY MUNICIPAL CODE
WHEREAS, Applicant, Jerry Winges (applicant), on behalf of property owner Erin
Murphy (Property Owner), has applied for an Architectural Permit to construct a 58
square foot ground floor addition and 414 square foot second story addition to an
existing historic, non-designated two-story single-family residence located at 935
Durlston Road (Project); and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Chapter 40 of the Redwood City Municipal Code
(Historic Preservation Ordinance), the Planning Commission shall review any
application to tear down, demolish, construct, alter, remove or relocate any
improvement, or any portion thereof. While the home has not gone through the formal
local landmark designation process, the City received a historic evaluation (Attachment
3 to the Planning Commission staff report prepared by William Kostura dated February
2020) that concludes the home has historic significance and therefore the City is
treating it as a historic property. The applicant does not seek local landmark designation
at this time; and
WHEREAS, the City of Redwood City (City) has received a historic evaluation
that concludes that the single-family residence located at 935 Durlston Road is eligible
for the California Register of Historical Resources under Criterion 3 and meets Criterion
C for designation as a local historic landmark according to the historic designation
criteria established by the Redwood City Historic Preservation Ordinance (Chapter 40 of
the Redwood City Code) because it is an outstanding example of the Mitterrandian
Revival style. The applicant is not currently proposing historic designation of the
structure locally or on the California Register of Historic Resources. The proposed
Project would not create significant adverse changes to the architectural style of the
historic resource; and
WHEREAS, on April 8 2021 the Historic Resource Advisory Committee
Reviewed the Project and materials and recommended approval of the Architectural
Permit; and
WHEREAS, on May 20, 2021 a public hearing notice of the Planning
Commission hearing was published in the San Mateo Daily Journal and sent to the
Property Owner and was mailed to owners and tenants within 300 feet of the Project;
and
