� ' RE�ek 1/10/66-7 <br /> , `+ � j '_ . .. <br /> i ' , <br /> R E S O L U T I O N N O. ��S <br /> RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE REQUEST OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC <br /> RAILR(�1D COMPANY FOR INCREASED COMMi]TER FARES <br /> Y7HEREAS, the Southern Paci£ic Railroad Company has initiated <br /> a request to the Interstate Commerce Commission to increase com- <br /> muter•fares affecting passenger trains serving the Peninsula area <br /> in the following amounts: <br /> (Increase) <br /> 5-day montlily commute increase charge <br /> £rom $20.00 to $30.00 50% <br /> Monthly commute from $21.75 to $31.75 46/ <br /> �7eekly commute, on a 7-day basis, in- <br /> creased from $5.50 to $9.00 64°� <br /> 60-day £amily commute (20 rides) from <br /> $13.50 to $24.00 _ 78% <br /> A single ride to S.F., one way, from <br /> .91G to $1.35 48/ <br /> Round trip from $1.64 to $2.40 46% ; and <br /> WI�REAS, these trains are used extensively by and are of <br /> vital importance to many residents of the City o£ Redwood City <br /> as well as the citizens o£ our neighboring communities; and <br /> wHEREAS, these rate increases, i£ granted, would be exorbitant <br /> and cause individual hardship to residents of Redwood City and would <br /> adversely affect to some degree the economy of the City as.a whole; <br /> and <br /> I�REAS, it appears to this Council that the Southern PaciEic <br /> Company has failed to actively promote its passenger service or <br /> make any attempt to provide the modern service needed by this day <br /> and age, including the failure to provide adequate parking; <br /> NOYd, THEREFORE; � <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDY700D CITY, <br /> AS FOLLOY75: <br /> 1.
