' PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26, 2007 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Slusser, Vice Chairperson White, <br /> Commissioners Sargent and Wright <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Joseph-Hover, Swope and <br /> Truscelli <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Director Corinne Centeno, Superintendent Chris Beth, <br /> Administrative Assistant Denise Monroe <br /> Chairperson Bob Slusser called the regular meeting of the Park and <br /> Recreation Commission to order at 7:30pm in Room 5 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the )uly meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> A letter was received from the California Association of Parks and Recreation <br /> Commissioners and Board Members regarding accepting nominations for <br /> their annual awards program. <br /> ITEM 1 — APPROVE STAFF RECOMMENDATION TO INSTALL FENCE AT <br /> SKATEPARK <br /> Director Centeno reported on the three public meetings held to discuss the <br /> skatepark and the usage of BMX bikes at the site. The first meeting was to <br /> obtain input from the public; the second meeting was a process oriented <br /> forum; and the third meeting was to have staff report on their <br /> recommendations. She stated that the majority of ineeting participants were <br /> not in favor of the BMX bikes using the skatepark and wanted staff to enforce <br /> the existing rules. <br /> Director Centeno reviewed the staff report and staff's recommendation that: <br /> 1.) No changes be made to the existing rules to allow BMX bikes in the <br /> skatepark. <br /> 2.) That a 6' ornamental iron fence be installed on the perimeter of the <br /> skatepark <br /> 3.) The Police Department be asked to increase enforcement of the <br /> helmet and no bike rules for an initial period after the fence <br /> installation. <br />
