The services offered were: reduced rates, free
weatherization, free replacement of refrigerator/furnace/etc., coding
account (identification), free safety checks, medical baseline questions,
balance payment plans (12 month average), and automatic
payment service. Chairperson Anthony will contact PG&E representative Anna
Anderson to make sure all the services offered are still available.
ITEM 1 - Reverse Mortgages
Commissioner Lloyd was not in attendance to report on this subject. This
matter will be carried over to the July meeting.
ITEM 2 - Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey Update
Chairperson Anthony said he spoke with Charlene Silva regarding the survey
and asked her review it and make comments. She suggested adding "What
hospital do you belong to?" under the Medical and Dental category. She
commented about people who may not be able to communicate their needs. It
was also suggested that churches be added to list of distribution points.
Chairperson Anthony mentioned that Ms. Silva felt the survey was very
comprehensive. He wants to make sure the survey is distributed citywide
and not just at the two senior centers. He also felt the survey should be
produced in larger print and perhaps in a smaller version in one of the
Park and Recreation brochures. The target group solicited should be age 60
and over. The Commissioners discussed different ways to distribute the
survey which included: Meals on Wheels, volunteers, Senior Outreach,
churches, newspaper articles, Social Security office, and retirement homes.
Chairperson Anthony requested copies of the draft survey to be sent to all
Commissioners. He will check on funds available for return mail and
printing costs.
