Executive Director Bransford reported they distribute their newsletter at
the Fair Oaks Senior Center rather than mailing it out. She said the Fair
Oaks Senior Center is trying to cut back on their costs and are considering
asking people to pay who wish to receive their newsletter through the mail.
She explained that $12,000 was cut back on funding from outside sources.
Executive Director Bransford said the Fair Oaks Senior Center has added a
Citizenship Exam Workshop to their program for the first time and the class
has 16 participants attending. The Center has also started an arthritis
health care class for Spanish speaking seniors and a course for Spanish
speaking caregivers/support group. She mentioned that a feasibility study
was done to determine the need for adult day care for Spanish speaking
people. The need was verified as a result of the study but several
concerns such as funding and facilities provide major barriers.
Executive Director Bransford discussed the food programs at the Centers and
problems with the program such as a dislike of the food by clients. Fair
Oaks gets their food from Chope and Veterans gets their food from Little
House. The Veterans Senior Advisory Council has requested staff to look
for an in-house cook and has given Little House notice that they intend to
discontinue using their food service. Food service will either be provided
by Chope or food will be prepared by an in-house cook at the Center.
ROUNDTABLE
-Due to the fact the Commission's September and November meeting dates are
scheduled on holidays, the Commissioners elected to re-schedule these
meeting dates. The September 9 meeting will be changed to Thursday,
September 10 and the November 11 meeting date was changed to Thursday,
November 12. Both meetings will be held at the Senior Center Annex.
The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was adjourned at
10:15am to be reconvened at 9:00am on Thursday, September 10 at the Senior
Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California.
