SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION MINUTES OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1992 COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, Commissioners Berglund, Lloyd, Metzdorf, and Sharp COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioner Jordan and Truscelli STAFF PRESENT: Park and Recreation Superintendent Sally Hartman, Library Supervisor Val Hamilton, Secretary Denise Monroe, Leslie Fancher and Joan Ferguson GUESTS PRESENT: Executive Director Maria Bransford Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission to order at 9:05 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada Street, Redwood City, California. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of the August meeting were approved as mailed. Chairperson Anthony asked why the senior center activities are no longer listed in the quarterly Park and Recreation brochure. Superintendent Hartman explained that in an effort to reduce expenses and put more effort into making a better senior newsletter, this information is now included in the monthly senior newsletter. She explained that the information which appeared in the quarterly brochure was duplicated information which appeared in other senior publications. Chairperson Anthony felt that since the quarterly brochure is sent to all Redwood City residents, it was the only way to reach homebound seniors and advise them of the programs offered at the senior centers. Superintendent Hartman said she would take his suggestion back to the appropriate staff members. CORRESPONDENCE There was no correspondence. ITEM 1 - Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey The Commissioners were given a draft copy of the questionnaire for their review. They made comments and suggestions to help enhance the form which will be used initially for a test pilot program. Joan Ferguson of the Veterans Senior Center staff explained the pilot process to the Commissioners and said she will be working with Supervisor Kucala and Chairperson Anthony to collect pilot data and write a cover letter to accompany the survey. Joan will also work with Executive Director Bransford in order to conduct the pilot program with seniors at Fair Oaks Senior Center.
