SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JANUARY 13, 1993 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Lloyd, Metzdorf, <br /> Sharp and Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Commissioners Berglund and <br /> Jordan <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation Superinendent <br /> Sally Hartman, Recreation <br /> Supervisor Mary Kucala, and <br /> Library Supervisor Val Hamilton <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: None <br /> Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> The minutes of the November meeting were approved as mailed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 - Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey <br /> Chairperson Anthony announced that 177 surveys were returned to the <br /> Veterans Memorial Senior Center and 27 from the Fair Oaks Senior Center as <br /> of January 12, 1993, with the majority of surveys returned from the 94061 <br /> zip code area. The surveys were distributed before Christmas and will <br /> continue to be accepted through the end of January. Commissioner Sharp <br /> volunteered to take some of the surveys home to tabulate them. Supervisor <br /> Kucala volunteered to design a tally sheet to be used in the tabulation <br /> process. <br /> ITEM 2 - Transportation <br /> Chairperson Anthony announced he has resigned from TRIPS and Tuesday night <br /> Bingo due to an overload of responsibilities from the numerous groups he is <br /> active with. He indicated the taxi program is now in operation throughout <br /> the County and operates the same as Redi-Wheels, which guarantees each <br /> participant 6 trips per month. Chairperson Anthony said some people cannot <br /> use the taxi service because of their severe disabilities. It costs .85c <br /> per taxi trip and is paid for by the individual . Each participant must be <br /> pre-qualified to be eligible for the taxi program and the Poplar Center in <br /> San Mateo handles the application process. The taxis can be used for any <br /> purpose and will also be available on weekends. It was mentioned the <br /> actual cost could go up to $1.70 per trip but SamTrans is trying to hold <br /> the cost at .85c. Chairperson Anthony noted Redwood City still does not <br /> have any taxi service at this time. <br />
