SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF THURSDAY, MARCH 10, 1993 <br /> COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chairperson Anthony, <br /> Commissioners Berglund, Jordan, <br /> Lloyd, Metzdorf, Sharp and <br /> Truscelli <br /> COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: None <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Park & Recreation <br /> Superintendent Sally Hartman, <br /> Library Supervisor Val Hamilton, <br /> and Secretary Denise Monroe <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Mariana Rose Jordan <br /> Chairperson Anthony called the regular meeting of the Senior Affairs <br /> Commission to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Senior Center Annex, 711 Nevada <br /> Street, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> Chairperson Anthony asked that the February minutes be corrected under <br /> Item 3, Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey. The first sentence should read <br /> "Chairperson Anthony said he recently discovered if someone's SSI check <br /> was eliminated, the person would also lose their eligibility for Medi-Cal". <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> There was no correspondence. <br /> ITEM 1 - Vital Concerns of Seniors Survey <br /> Chairperson Anthony advised the Commission that there are still many <br /> surveys which need to be tallied and he will speak to Supervisor Kucala to <br /> try and form a work group of seniors to complete the process. Commissioner <br /> Sharp noted there were 15 Spanish surveys which needed to be translated and <br /> she will work with Executive Director Bransford to complete them. <br /> Chairperson Anthony noted the "Comments Section" on all the surveys need to <br /> be read and organized. <br /> Chairperson Anthony discussed the Commission's approach to the proposed <br /> Study Session with the City Council. He would like to take the information <br /> obtained from the survey and present it to the City Council along with <br /> information Supervisor Kucala is trying to obtain from the 1990 Census <br /> data. A suggestion was made to include I&R people in the presentation <br /> process to identify the key problems seniors are faced with. Chairperson <br /> Anthony asked each Commissioner to review the survey and decide which <br /> things they would be most interested in presenting at the Study Session. <br /> Chairperson Anthony said he felt the primary purpose in presenting <br /> information to the City Council would be to advise them that the senior <br /> citizen is predominantly on a fixed income that is unable to withstand any <br />
