Walsh <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Maxine Cottrill, Rita Donovan, Susan Houston, Jim <br /> Leahy, Ethel Robinson, Vincent Truscelli <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Superintendent Chris Beth, Manager Linda Griffith, <br /> Recreation Supervisor Yelena Devyatova, Marlene Annuzzi, <br /> Cindy Jimenez, Mary Anne Robinson, Danny Sanchez, <br /> Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br /> The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by <br /> Chairperson Jean Harrison at 1:05pm in the Goldstar Room of the Veterans <br /> Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> M/S M.Walsh/Moran: To approve the April minutes as mailed. <br /> Motion passed. <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Chairperson Harrison read a letter dated April 17, 2002 from Director Corinne <br /> Centeno, regarding the parking situation at Fair Oaks Community Center. <br /> ITEM 1 - NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON AGING AND THE AMERICAN <br /> SOCIETY ON AGING - L. GRIFFITH <br /> Manager Griffith made a presentation on the 2002 Joint Conference named <br /> Crossing the Great Divide-A Call for Compassion and Creativity. She <br /> discussed an intensive session she attended called Driving Wellness & <br /> Transportation Choices for Older Adults. Issues addressed included safe <br /> mobility, aging and driving wellness, elders talk about transportation, the role <br /> of professionals in supporting older driver wellness and practical approaches <br /> to stimulate elder transportation choices in the community. Presented within <br /> the transportation topic were a plan development process, a regional action <br /> plan, 25 draft recommendations and implementation activities. <br /> Manager Griffith reported that Redwood City's senior centers are ahead of <br /> many other cities in utilizing volunteers, collaborations and seeking <br /> innovative ways to improve.
