Senior Affairs Commission Page 2
Minutes of Thursday,June 13,2002
assist in facilitating such an event. HICAP is being considered as a possible
partner in this project.
John Dempsey suggested contacting PIA - Peninsula Interfaith Action, a
group of 23 churches that has been successful with housing issues. There is
a group at Woodside Methodist Church that is working on healthcare issues
of seniors that may be interested in assisting. Diana Reddy is the contact
person.
It was suggested that promotional literature about programs be made
available when plans are formalized. Anonymous submission of written
summations about healthcare experiences will be considered as a possible
way to have more participants. Workshops may be held before the
symposium to assist with people in writing concise statements for
presentation. Nothing was listed for senior programs. Plans will be made for a
meeting with Mr. Gibson, hopefully within the next month, to discuss the
possibility of the Sequoia District funding some senior healthcare programs
and perhaps make a presentation to the Senior Affairs Commission in August
2002.
-Transportation
Commissioner M. Walsh reported that budget constraints do not allow for a
Redwood City shuttle at this time but she will continue to present ideas to
Diane Howard and David Nelson on regular basis in hopes that they are
pursuing transportation grants.
Manager Chin reported on the parking situation at Fair Oaks Community
Center. She had contacted the Costco warehouse manager about using the
Costco lot for overflow parking for special events Fair Oaks. There was no
problem with the occasional use if Costco is provided enough advance notice.
Other sites are being considered for employee offsite parking at reasonable
