SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION <br />MINUTES OF THURSDAY, JUNE 8, 2017 <br /> <br />COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Vice Chair Paley, Commissioners Britschgi, James, Jones, Mitchell and Turk <br />COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: Chairperson Draeger <br />STAFF PRESENT: PRCS Manager Bruce Utecht, Administrative Clerk Kathy Bede <br />The regular meeting of the Senior Affairs Commission was called to order by Vice Chair Paley at 1:05 <br />p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Senior Center, 1455 Madison Avenue, Redwood City, California. <br />GUESTS PRESENT: Betty Garcia, Molly Bresnahan and Laura Swartzel <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES: M/S: James/Jones: To approve the minutes of the March 9, 2017 SAC <br />meeting as written. Motion passed. <br />ITEM 1 – Welcome Carey Mitchell <br />Postponed - pending Commissioner Mitchell’s arrival. <br /> <br />ITEM 2 - YMCA/Senior Center Update - Chris Beth <br />Postponed to next meeting. <br /> <br />ITEM 3 – Seniors on the Square – Elder Abuse Awareness <br />Bruce announced that there will not be a speaker this year at the Seniors on the Square event. The <br />Senior Affairs Commission is partnering with San Mateo County Aging & Adult Services and Ombudsman <br />Services of San Mateo County to promote elder abuse awareness on Friday, June 16th, from 10:00 a.m. <br />to 12:00 p.m. <br /> <br />ITEM 4 – Form 700 <br />Bruce thanked and congratulated the commissioners for getting their Form 700 turned in promptly to <br />the City Clerk. <br /> <br />The Senior Affairs Commission commends Sylvia Vonderlinden with sincere congratulations and <br />appreciation for her many outstanding years as Redwood City’s City Clerk. <br /> <br />The following item was taken out of order - <br /> <br />ITEM 1 – Welcome Carey Mitchell <br />Vice Chair Paley welcomed Carey to the Senior Affairs Commission and asked her to tell them about <br />herself. Commissioner Mitchell stated that she is a realtor with elderly friends whom she cares about <br />and would like to help ensure their voices are heard. <br /> <br /> <br />
