I <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR METING <br /> REDWOOD CITY COUNCIL <br /> JANUARY 3 , 1933 <br /> 8 : 00 P . M . <br /> Upon roll call , the following Councilmen were present : Mayor Si' J . Dusel , H. A. Beeger , R. N. Jones , <br /> C . J. Hildebrant , Paul A. McCarthy , George W. McNulty , City Clerk, B . E. Myers . Absent : Council- <br /> man C . G. Lambert . <br /> Minutes of December 19 were approved on motion of Councilman Hildebrant , seconded by Councilman McNulty . <br /> The City Treasurer submitted to the Council letters from various bondholders asking for interest on <br /> bonds which had been defaulted July , 1932 , and referred to instructions given him back in June to <br /> the effect that he was not to pay any interest on such defaulted bonds . He was instructed at this <br /> time that there was no money available to pay such accrued interest and that he was to notify the <br /> bondholders to that effect . <br /> E. H . Adams , representing the Seventh Day Adventists , appeared before the Council to ask that the <br /> tabernacle now standing on Brewster Avenue between Arch Street and the highway be allowed to remain <br /> until January 15 , at which time he said it would be taken down . Permission was given . <br /> E . J . Willets , representing the Associated Oil Company , asked that he be given a permit to erect a <br /> service station at the northwest corner of Middlefield Road and the Bayshore Highway , said station <br /> to be of steel construction . On motion of Councilman Hildebrant , seconded by Councilman McNulty , <br /> Mr . Willets was granted the permit . <br /> On motion of Councilman McCarthy , seconded by Councilman Hildebrant , the following resolution was <br /> adopted unanimously . <br /> WHEREAS , it has come to our attention that certain Federal Agencies contemplate <br /> submitting to 'Congress certain amendments to the Revenue Act of 1932 , which amendments will , <br /> in our opinion result in a tax burden upon States , State Agencies and/or publicly owned <br /> utilities , and , <br /> WHEREAS , we are of the opinion that any tax created by Congress which results <br /> in the imposition of any burden upon States , State Agencies and/or publicly owned utilities <br /> is contrary to public policy , <br /> NOW , THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Redwood City , <br /> State of California , protests any Federal taxation which imposes , or may be interpreted to <br /> impose , a burden upon States , state Agencies and/or publicly owned utilities . <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that we recommend the adoption of the following amend- <br /> . <br /> ments to . the Revenue Act of 1932 . <br /> 1 . In the enforcement of the Revenue Act of 1932 the Federal <br /> Government shall not impose an obligation upon any State or <br /> territory or political subdivision thereof , or the District <br /> of Columbia, or on the officers or employees of the aforesaid . <br /> 2 . The term 'political subdivision ' includes any district created <br /> under the laws of a State or territory for the purpose of con- <br /> structing or operating any public utility . <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Senators Johnson and Shortridge and Representative <br /> Arthur M. Free of the Congressional District of California , be and they are hereby urged <br /> to assist in protesting any such tax and to submit the above amendments to their respective <br /> bodies for immediate passage . <br /> r <br />
