' • 8.B. - Page 45
CAMBRIDGE
ACADEMY
May 6, 2014
SITE CIRCLULATION PLAN — EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Cambridge Academy recognizes the need to operate an efficient and low impact site circulation plan to
avoid vehicles queuing into Connecticut Avenue at the school's entrance during student arrival and
departure times. This site circulation plan has been prepared with careful consideration of the Roots N
Wings Montessori preschool and has been completely understood by Tracy Crawford, Director. She
approves the traffic plan with the consideration that staff levels are consistently maintained, as described,
to provide a managed traffic flow. We have also met with Principal Girardi of Roosevelt Elementary School
and explained the main adjustments to the plan of reducing the number of students to 150 and moving the
start of arrivals from 7:30 to 8:10AM. Principal Girardi confimed that there would be no overlap with her
school's arrival and departure times.
This site circulation plan assumes a count of 150 students estimated to be attained in the sixth year of
school operation. We will operate up to three, staggered, student arrival times from 8:10 to 8:40 am and up
to three, staggered, student departure times from 3:15 to 3:45 pm. These are dependent on the existing
student population and the evaluation of prior years student loading /unloading process efficiency.
For arrivals, up to three staff will manage the unloading of students from vehicles with another 1 -2 staff
members assisting with vehicular flow and direction. For departures, three staff will assist with the student
loading process, an additional 1 -2 staff will assist with student escorting and another 1 -2 staff assisting with
vehicular flow and direction.
Prior to the first day of school, each family will be issued 2 visor cards per student with the child's name and
class. Prior to the start and during departure, a staff member will walk the length of the pick -up area, calling
on the walkie- talkie for teachers to release from the classrooms the students in the order that parents
arrive. Additional staff members will be on hand in the pick -up area to queue the released students in the
order of the arriving vehicles and to immediately begin loading students into vehicles.
In the event that the vehicle queue fills up, we will have a member of staff direct any extra vehicles to park
in some of the 38 available parking spaces in the parking area between the Montessori school and the
Cambridge school offices. These parking spaces are shared with the Montessori school, however,
approximately half of the Montessori departures occur after the Cambridge arrival and departure times. As
an extra contingency an additional parking area can be opened up by the student pick up /drop area. In that
contingency scenario parent vehicles will be directed by a staff member to the parking area instead of
stopping to load /unload their children. This will have the effect of reducing the queue quickly to stop any
potential queue overflow.
IEC ,yEL)
Aim 5 2014
CrIY OF FiEDIIV000 crry
PLANNING SERVICES
4' 1 4
' 2323 Euclid Avenue
Redwood City, CA 94061 CONFIDENTIAL Page 1 of 14
4 D c Tel: (650) 814 -8954
