D. Swearing in of Planning Commission Appointees - Janet Borgens, <br /> Rachel Holt, and Ernie Schmidt - Silvia Vonderlinden, City Clerk <br /> City Clerk Vonderlinden swore in the appointees at the podium and congratulated them. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Mayor Gee noted that 7.1A was pulled from the agenda. <br /> Gail Raabe, representing Redwood City Neighbors United, thanked the Council and the <br /> City Manager for listening to their concerns about the inclusion of the salt ponds on the <br /> map of 7.1A. They look forward to working with the City on recycled water issues. <br /> Nancy Radcliffe mentioned that the Redwood City Pageant will be held on February <br /> 22"a at the College of San Mateo Theater. Mayor Jeff Gee will be the photographer; <br /> Barbara Pierce will be the Ticket Administrator; and Sheri from Studio S will be the <br /> choreographer. On another note, Ms. Radcliffe also brought up her role as a Board <br /> Member of City Trees. She thanked Council for letting Public Works partner with City <br /> Trees and together they have grown over 2,800 trees and started a pruning program the <br /> third Saturday of the month and started tree walks. The next walk will be on March gtn <br /> at Sequoia High School. Ms. Radcliffe further stated that they have received a <br /> generous donation from Former Mayor Ira Ruskin; and so on April 19th, there will be a <br /> special recognition event tree planting in honor of Mr. Ruskin. Additionally, Ms. <br /> Radcliffe mentioned that the new county jail will have a program that allows inmates to <br /> plant and grow trees at the facility. Lastly, Canopy from Palo Alto will be partnering with <br /> City Trees. <br /> 7. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> M/S Aguirre/Seybert to approve the Consent Calendar with agenda item 7.1A excluded <br /> and Council Member Howard abstaining on 7.2. A as she was not present at those <br /> meetings. <br /> Marsha Cohen, member of Redwood City Neighbors United, thanked City Manager Bell <br /> for removing the 7.1A item from the Consent Calendar item on the recycled water. She <br /> mentioned that she participated in a series of workshops providing citizen input <br /> regarding urban water management plan facilitated by Justin Ezell. She said that he <br /> stated in the beginning that there will be no discussion of water issues pertaining to the <br /> salt ponds and Cargill. She opined the use of recycled water is important and should be <br /> throughout Redwood City. <br /> Alice Coffman, with Committee for Green Foothills, also thanked Council and City Staff <br /> for pulling the item. She appreciates the City's responsiveness and would be happy to <br /> work with staff and Council on this issue. <br /> Chris Johnson, member of the Committee to the "No Downtown Jail Initiative", <br /> discussed 7.1 G. He believes that the County changed course on the second jail and <br /> opined that Redwood City is bearing tremendous costs already to the downtown jail and <br /> CITY COUNCIL February 10, 2014 <br /> MEETING MINUTES PAGE 3 <br /> MINUTE BOOK NO. 65 <br /> Page No. 75 <br />
