3. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE - Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America, <br /> Steve Warren Memorial Chapter#464 <br /> 4. INVOCATION — Pastor Dennis Logie, Redwood City Police Department <br /> 5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Proclamation in Honor of Ira Ruskin for All His Contributions, Former <br /> Assembly Member - Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee read and presented the proclamation in honor of Mr. Ruskin (in absentia) for <br /> his many years of service and generosity to the Redwood City community, serving as <br /> past Mayor, Council Member and for his contributions, in particular to the Library <br /> Foundation, Project Read, and City Trees. Mayor Gee invited Jim Hartnett, former <br /> Mayor and Council Member, to also speak about former Mayor and Council Member Ira <br /> Ruskin and his years of service in the State Assembly and for the City of Redwood City. <br /> Mr. Hartnett shared a myriad of accomplishments achieved by Mr. Ruskin and said he <br /> was honored to be here representing him. <br /> B. Silicon Valley Leadership Group Red Tape to Red Carpet (RT2RC) <br /> Award presented to the former Mayor Aguirre and Mayor Gee, City <br /> Manager Bell, Police Chief Gamez, and City Economic Development <br /> Manager Brooks by Mike Mielke, Vice President, Environmental Programs <br /> & Policy, Silicon Valley Leadership Group <br /> Mayor Gee invited Mr. Mielke, Vice President, Environmental Programs & Policy, Silicon <br /> Valley Leadership Group, former Mayor Aguirre, City Manager Bell, and Economic <br /> Development Manager Brooks to the podium for recognition. Other police staff was <br /> present. Mr. Mielke spoke about their program in recognizing the work of government <br /> agencies. Chief Gamez thanked the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, his department, <br /> and spoke about how the Police Department is using technology to connect with <br /> residents. Dr. Bell, City Manager, noted that Mr. Brooks received this recognition for his <br /> work in economic development in less than a year in working with this City. Mayor Gee <br /> thanked everyone for their contributions and the honor of the award. <br /> C. Proclaiming March 29, 2014 as Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day <br /> in Redwood City - Gary Higgins, President, Vietnam Veterans of America, <br /> Steve Warren Memorial Chapter#464 -Jeffrey Gee, Mayor <br /> Mayor Gee related information about the Vietnam War, presenting the proclamation on <br /> behalf of City Council, the community, and those who have served or had family <br /> members serving in this war to the Vietnam Veterans of America, Steve Warren <br /> Memorial Chapter#464. Mr. Higgins, President, Vietnam Veterans of America, Steve <br /> Warren Memorial Chapter#464, spoke about their past experiences coming home from <br /> the war, their chapter and he also recognized some of their members' contributions and <br /> activities, and in particular, Leo McCartle, Chaplain at the Volunteers of America.
