Center to benefit veterans. He also asked that anyone who has received a Purple Heart <br /> from any war to contact him for free lifetime membership. He is hoping to reestablish <br /> and maintain a Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 15, which was in San <br /> Francisco but will be expanded to San Mateo. <br /> Helen Wong, a reservist and veteran of the Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf urged <br /> veterans, of whatever era, to join veterans support groups for their own benefit and also <br /> because they need the support. <br /> Mayor Gee said that any veterans may contact the City Clerk, who will then be <br /> connected with any of the veterans' groups. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Nancy Radcliffe, representing CityTrees.org, gave an update of an event on March 29, <br /> 2014, where big trees will be planted in honor of Ira Ruskin, thanks to his generous <br /> donation. <br /> Jim Hartnett, former Mayor and City Council Member, spoke in support of recognizing <br /> the veterans in our community and noted that there have been many Redwood City <br /> veterans, including former Mayor and Council Member Dick Claire's younger brother <br /> who died in the Vietnam Way in a rescue mission, as well as many others. He spoke <br /> about the importance of recognizing those who serve in the military now and in the past <br /> and salutes Gary, Helen, and the (Vietnam Veterans of America, Steve Warren <br /> Memorial) Chapter. <br /> James Jonas spoke about a San Francisco magazine article regarding the base of the <br /> Bay Bridge, flooding issues, and sea level rise. He is a resident next to Redwood Creek <br /> and is concerned about the flood plain. He urged Council to look at the Precise Plan for <br /> the Inner Harbor area, think big about sea level rise, and alignment with nature. <br /> 7. CONSENT CALENDAR <br /> M/S Aguirre/Bain to approve the Consent Calendar with item 7.4.A excluded. <br /> Motion carried unanimously by electronic vote. <br /> Council Member Howard spoke about the trash item 7.1 D, complimenting Assistant <br /> Public Works Superintendent Kyaw, and expressing her appreciation on how thorough <br /> and aggressive the Plan is on keeping trash out of the waterways. She noted that the <br /> volunteers should be mentioned in the Plan beyond what is mentioned on page 31 of the <br /> report. <br /> M/S Aguirre/Foust to approve Consent Calendar item 7.4.A. Motion carried 6-1 <br /> with Council Member Howard abstained on this item due to a financial interest in <br /> the proposed district. <br /> 1.
