Exception to Public Employee Pension Reform Act 180-Day Wait <br /> Period to Hire Retired Annuitant to Perform Finance Director Duties <br /> (901) <br /> Dr. Robert Bell, City Manager, requested that Council retain the current Finance <br /> Director Brian Ponty, and CaIPERS requires that the public be notified of this request. <br /> Mr. Ponty is asked to stay later than his retirement date, because it has been very <br /> difficult to find enough qualified candidates and they are down to looking at finro <br /> candidates at the end of May. Dr. Bell said that if they don't make a decision, then they <br /> have to look at long term interim appointments. Mr. Ponty has agreed to stay on. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> Adopt a Resolution approving an exception to the Public Employee Reform <br /> Act (PEPRA) 180-day waiting period to hire retired annuitant, Brian Ponty, <br /> to perForm critical Finance Director duties associated with oversight and <br /> effective execution of Finance operations for a limited time in 2014. <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 15339 FOR EXCEPTION TO THE 180-DAY WAIT PERIOD <br /> TO HIRE RETIREE BRIAN PONTY AS INTERIM FINANCE DIRECTOR <br /> M/S Pierce/Seybert to adopt the resolution. Motion carried by electronic vote with <br /> Council Member Bain absent. <br /> 10. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. City Council Member Reports of Conferences Attended <br /> Council Member Howard reported on the Pride and Beautification Committee event - <br /> the annual Earth Day Clean Up. She added that the group was downtown and cleaned <br /> numerous areas including creeks, and collected 2,400 pounds of trash. She <br /> acknowledged and thanked the sponsors, the volunteers and staff. <br /> Council Member Seybert announced that Redwood City brought back the bocce ball <br /> tournament trophy twice in the last four years. The tournament is countywide. He also <br /> acknowledged members of the team including Council Members and the City Manager. <br /> He mentioned that it was fun and had a good time. <br /> Mayor Gee reminded the community about the upcoming Library Foundation's <br /> fundraising event with the theme Wild West. He also mentioned that at the College of <br /> San Mateo there will be a Belmont-Redwood Shores School District fundraiser and they <br /> have a bike theme in conjunction with the upcoming Bike to Work Day. There will be <br /> five energizer stations on that day. <br /> B. City Council Committee Reports <br /> C.
