She thanked Council for supporting their emergency shelter and is <br /> look forward to the continued relationship. <br /> Cherlene Wright, spoke not as a member or as Chair of the HHCC, but as a resident of <br /> Redwood City. She said that she thought about the many people who were helped with <br /> a small amount of money from the federal government and how they have the honor of <br /> hearing these stories on a regular basis. But, Ms. Wright pointed out that for every story <br /> heard, there is also a story not heard because they didn't have the money to fund all the <br /> agencies. Ms. Wright mentioned the importance of volunteerism, and thanked the City <br /> Council for letting her be a part of the HHCC to help people. <br /> David DeNola, Executive Director of the Center of Independence, expressed <br /> appreciation for the City's support of the accessibility for people with disabilities for <br /> independent living. He also spoke briefly about his organization, the success story of <br /> one consumer who is now a member of their board, and other clients who have <br /> benefited from the organization. <br /> M/S Aguirre/Seybert to close the Public Hearing. Motion carried 6-0 by roll call vote. <br /> One Council Member concurred with Chair Wright that she was in awe of the work <br /> done, with so little work, and help the neediest. She wanted to thank them for the work <br /> they do and appreciates them. <br /> Vice Mayor Foust also thanked the organizations. She also specifically spoke about <br /> affordable housing in Redwood City and that Habitat for Humanity, in the last 24 years, <br /> has built over 210 homes and 52% are in Redwood City. She acknowledges that this is <br /> something the community can be proud of, but more work needs to be done for <br /> affordable housing. She thanked all the groups and Habitat for Humanity. <br /> Mayor Gee expressed thanks and mentioned the multiplier or leverage factor. He <br /> thanked all the organizations for their help, especially when it came to the finro fires on <br /> Woodside Road. <br /> M/S Foust/Seybert to adopt the resolution without Casa de Redwood. Motion carried <br /> 6-0 by electronic vote with Council Member Bain absent. <br /> M/S Aguirre/Howard with Foust recused and abstained on Casa de Redwood City. <br /> Motion carried 5-0 with Vice Mayor Foust recused and Council Member Bain <br /> absent. <br /> Recommendation: <br /> 1.
