__ i
Joe Verga said he lives on the levy and he would like the sewer line, which was just
spoken about, to go through the median (the area befinreen the two lanes) so there is
less disruption and more respect for the homeowner. He outlined the benefits of this
option.
One Council Member said this is the first time he has heard about this issue and he
expressed surprise. He added that this is just a Study Session and no Council action
may be taken. Mayor Gee invited Council Member Seybert to comment on the issue
since he serves on the Silicon Valley Clean Water Board. Council Member Seybert said
that there are multiple steps to this project and it is still very much at the discussion of
options level, and that not all the options have been vetted or discussed. He added he is
a resident of Redwood Shores and he cares about what happens and the impacts. He
encouraged residents to stay involved and provide input and feedback through him.
Carole Wong thanked the City Council for creating a pedestrian friendly meeting
because she was able to walk to this meeting. She inquired about an update on new
wireless towers in the Shores, update on State Level or FCC ruling on this, and she
shared that she has been meeting with staff and she has observed that there is a loss of
institutional knowledge through all the changes. She finds that there is a need to
educate each other on what the processes are. She said that she is hopeful that she
will be able to resolve these issues through Bob Bell, City Manager.
Pamela Thompson, City Attorney, said that with respect to wireless facilities, the
Federal Communication Commission (FCC) proposed new rules which would reduce
local control. So the City Council directed the City Attorney to join a coalition across the
nation to oppose that approach. Ms. Wong requested the link to the comments
submitted.
Susan Klein inquired about potholes and how to get them addressed quickly.
Vice Mayor Foust said that MyRWC is an option for those who want to report real time
issues from the location the person is at. Mr. Ekern said that in general staff tries to be
very responsive and there will be a special project that will address this issue. He added
that in regards to tree roots, these are an issue and it is a difficult issue at Redwood
Shores because they tend to rise up to the surface quickly.
Julie Abraham inquired about the Salt Works and rezoning and the possibility of a toll
road due to growth in this area.
Mayor Gee said that there is no project and there is nothing there, the Zoning remains
as is. In regards to the toll road this is the first he has heard about this but there will be
some interesting challenges as well as a lawsuit filed in San Francisco regarding Muni
stops.
SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL STUDY SESSION/TOWN HALL May 5, 2014
MEETING MINUTES PAGE 3
MINUTE BOOK NO. 65
Page No. 144
