__ , --�--- ._ . <br /> Council Member Aguirre, as an MTC Commissioner, said that San Francisco had the <br /> same proposition of charging San Mateo County residents who go into the City, but this <br /> did not come to fruition. She said that there are opportunities for public/private <br /> partnerships and there are some discussions of toll roads on freeways such as the 101. <br /> The Mayor also invited Council Member Howard to comment on the ferries and <br /> waterways use for transportation. Council Member Howard added that some of the <br /> large companies that moved into the area did a pilot program using ferries to go to work <br /> and this was a successful program. She said that this was part of a blueprint that begun <br /> in 1997 and now there is a lot more planned development and Redwood City is being <br /> considered for water transit by the agencies managing such options. She said that <br /> South San Francisco is trying it out and maybe Redwood City will be next. <br /> Dr. Bell shared new maps available on the main page of the City's website and both are <br /> informative. He commented that the objectives of the General Plan are to develop and <br /> encourage multi-modal transportation. He also announced the first Stanford Speakers' <br /> Series is this Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and he offered flyers for those interested. <br /> Carole Wong commented on the water reductions and how we are not making the 10% <br /> volunteer reduction and what the City's game plan is. <br /> Mayor Gee noted that a lot more outreach and education is needed and the challenge is <br /> that the water bill comes much later so there is a time lapse between behavior and <br /> cosUreward. The Mayor said that there is no question that we all need to do a better job <br /> and he encourages all to embrace water use reduction. Dr. Bell noted that if the <br /> situation worsens the City does have a Water Management Plan to implement. <br /> Ramona Raybin inquired if the City has the authority to regulate restaurants to not offer <br /> water unless asked for it. Mayor Gee said staff will look into it. <br /> Mayor Gee invited each Council Member to share thoughts and Department Heads to <br /> share any pertinent news. <br /> Dave Genesy, Library Director, shared that the book mobile would be in Redwood <br /> Shores this coming Wednesday and he invited all to join in the fun. <br /> Chris Beth, Parks, Recreation, Community Services Director, said that there is a concert <br /> at Marlin Park and there are three planned and also for downtown concerts the first one <br /> is the first Friday in June. He thanked the Council and sponsors for all their support. <br /> JR Gamez spoke about a Code Red education campaign targeted at schools and as a <br /> follow-up, Redwood City will be leading a countywide exercise that will bring Fire and <br /> Police services together to enhance safety and preparedness. He also announced <br /> upcoming Town Hall meetings in September. <br /> Jim Skinner, Fire Chief, reminded the community to be Fire safe and he asked everyone <br /> to be safe with BBQs and be vigilant.
