5. SPECIAL ORDER(S) OF THE DAY <br /> A. Update on the Caltrain Modernization Program - Marian Lee, Caltrain <br /> Modernization Executive Officer <br /> Ms. Lee made introductory remarks and showed a public relations video. She said the <br /> electrification goes through a number of counties and cities and she focused on the <br /> advanced signal system. She elaborated on its benefits and efficiencies. The target <br /> date for the electrification is 2019 and this is due to the fact that this is a live corridor. <br /> Ms. Lee added that a Draft Environment Report was circulated and comments were <br /> collected and a final document is expected in the early fall and the Board will possibly <br /> certify it by the end of the current year. The design builders have been contacted and a <br /> Request for Qualifications is under way to be followed by a Request for Information. <br /> The goal is to have two submittals for consideration. <br /> Mayor Gee thanked Ms. Lee for the presentation since this will benefit our community. <br /> Another Council Member inquired if there is a hotline for community questions. Ms. Lee <br /> said that one line has been set up for the advanced signal system, but another one will <br /> be set up and she will coordinate with each of the impacted cities. Vice Mayor Foust <br /> thanked Ms. Lee for her presentation and the fact that she has finro colleagues who <br /> have been instrumental in the process. <br /> 6. PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Amanda Folena, who is the artistic director of Broadway by the Bay, spoke about the <br /> show "In the Heights" and how it is very exciting and going on at the Fox Theater. <br /> Theresa Lyngso thanked everyone who put time and effort into the Inner Harbor <br /> discussions. She values the current Zoning of her property because it has made it <br /> feasible for them to be in business for 45 years in Redwood City. She understands the <br /> need for mixed use, and through careful Planning, she feels everyone can be served <br /> and thrive together. <br /> Connie Guerrero, representing the North Fair Oaks festival, introduced the finalists for <br /> this festival. Two out of the five young ladies were present and introduced themselves <br /> requesting community support. Viridiana and Isabel presented themselves as <br /> competing for scholarships to further their education. Ms. Guerrero invited the City <br /> Council to the North Fair Oaks Festival. Ms. Carol Barragan was also introduced. <br /> Ro Fisher, President of the Redwood City Art Center, shared literature with the Council <br /> about an upcoming Gala inviting the Council and the public to attend. She then invited <br /> Ms. Jackie Feather and Ms. Beth Mostovoy to showca�e some of their artwork. The art <br /> was displayed for the Council and the public as well. Ms. Fisher said that according to <br /> her research the Redwood City Art Center is the oldest producing studio on the <br /> peninsula. <br /> 7.
