7.1.A. - Page 1 REPORT To the Honorable Mayor and City Council From the City Manager September 8, 2014 SUBJECT Amendment No. 1 to Extend the Agreement for Service Between the Redwood City School District, County of San Mateo, and City of Redwood City RECOMMENDATION By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 1 to the Agreement for Service Between the Redwood City School District, County of San Mateo, and City of Redwood City to support the Redwood City Community Schools program in the amount of $100,000 for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2015. BACKGROUND Several years ago, the City of Redwood City (City) in partnership with the Redwood City School District (District) and the County of San Mateo (County), entered into an agreement to provide financial support to the Redwood City Community Schools (RWCCS) to sustain their programs located at Fair Oaks, Hoover, Kennedy, Garfield and Taft Schools. Community Schools provide an array of support services through school-based family resource centers. These services include access to public benefits, counseling, health services, educational support and community development activities. The RWCCS were established to actively involve Redwood City residents, educators and human services providers in helping children to become successful learners. This program is overseen by the Redwood City School District and supported by Redwood City 2020. Community Schools reach students and their families in a way that few programs are able to do because they are strategically linked to the school communities they serve. ANALYSIS On June 23, 2013, the City Council approved an Agreement ("Agreement") for funds to be contributed by the City, County, and District to support the core operations of the RWCCS with $100,000 from the City, $113,676 from the County, and $195,000 from the District for fiscal year 2013/2014. For fiscal year 2014-2015, the RWCCS will continue to receive $113,676 from the County and $195,000 from the District. The City's contribution of $100,000 for fiscal year 2014-2015 (ending on June 30, 2015) is reflected in the amendment to the Agreement that is currently before Council for approval.
