• <br /> r <br /> • <br /> "Any vacancy occurring in the Council shall be filled <br /> by appointment by the remaining councilmen members;, but <br /> in the event that said remaining councilmen members fail . <br /> to fill such vacancy by appointment within 60 days after <br /> such vacancy occurs, they must immediately cause an election <br /> to be held to fill such vacancy; provided, however, that <br /> any person appointed to fill such vacancy shall hold office <br /> only until the next regular election, at which date a <br /> person shall be elected to serve for the remainder of such <br /> unexpired term. In case a member of the Council is absent <br /> from the City for a period of 90 days, unless by permission <br /> of the Council, his such member's office shall by the <br /> Council be declared vacant and the same shall be filled as <br /> in the case of other vacancies. <br /> • <br /> "The councilmen members shall receive as compensation <br /> ene two hundred fifty dollars 0158} • ($250) per month. <br /> Payment of compensation at the foregoing rate shall be made <br /> open-ratifieatien-by-the-Legrsieture-ef-this when the <br /> amendment hereto providing for such compensation is filed <br /> with the Secretary of State, but in no event before July 1, <br /> 196e 1978. <br /> "No councilmen member shall be elegible during the <br /> term for which he or she was appointed or elected to hold <br /> any other office or employment with the city, except as a <br /> member of any board, commission, or committee thereof, of <br /> which he such council member is constituted sueh a member <br /> by general law or by this Charter. " <br /> (h) Said Charter amendment. proposal shall be submitted to the <br /> electors of the City of Redwood City at the General Municipal Election <br /> to be held in the City on April 11, 1978, in the form of a proposal <br /> to amend said Charter by amending Section 9 thereof. On the ballots <br /> and on the voting machines to be used at said election, in addition <br /> to all other matters required by law to be printed thereon, shall <br /> appear the following: <br /> PROPOSITION D: Shall Section 9 of the Charter of the <br /> City of Redwood City be amended to provide <br /> that Council member compensation shall be $250 per month? <br /> SECTION 7 . (a) The Council of Redwood City hereby proposes, <br /> on its own motion, to amend the Charter of the City of Redwood City <br /> by amending Section 15 thereof to read as follows: <br /> "SECTION 15. LEGISLATION: <br /> "The council shall act in legislative matters by ordinance <br /> or resolution only. Other action of the council, unless <br /> herein otherwise provided, may be taken by resolution, motion <br /> or order. <br /> -8- <br />
