<br />Subsequent to the slurry application, the majority of the project roadways will be <br />restriped/remarked similar to their original configuration. On certain streets, striping <br />changes will be made to increase the safety and comfort of people walking and <br />bicycling, consistent with the City’s complete streets goals. Any such changes will be <br />done in consultation with the City Council’s General Plan Subcommittee. Proposed <br />changes include the addition of class II bike lanes on Redwood Shores Parkway and <br />Shearwater Parkway. <br /> <br />Project streets are shown on the attached Project Location Maps. <br /> <br />Six (6) bids were received for the 2013-2014 Slurry Seal Project by the bid deadline on <br />August 14, 2014. The total base bid of <br />$762,320.74 from American Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. is approximately <br />6% lower than the engineer’s estimate of $814,000.00 for the cost of construction. <br />Based upon the bids received, staff believes that the low bid of $762,320.74 is <br />reasonable and responsive, and recommends awarding the contract to American <br />Asphalt Repair and Resurfacing Co., Inc. <br /> <br />Construction is anticipated to begin in October 2014, and conclude by the end of 2014. <br />Notification of the proposed work will be mailed to area residents, property owners, <br />business owners, and schools in early October 2014. The contractor is required to <br />distribute an additional notice 14 days in advance of the start of work in each immediate <br />work area. Updates on the progress of construction will be available on the City’s <br />website. <br /> <br />ALTERNATIVES <br />Council may choose not to award the construction contract and direct staff to redesign <br />and/or rebid this project. <br />7.1.E. - Page 2
