RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> JANUARY 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTERESTS <br /> Registration for all winter special interest classes began January 3 , <br /> with many classes filling . So far the only classes cancelled were <br /> weaving and jewelry making . <br /> Seventeen Redwood City employees , volunteers and spouses attended the <br /> California Park and Recreation Society District IV Awards and Instal - <br /> lation Night at the Royal Coach on January 15 . The teen volunteers <br /> from the Red Morton Center received a citation award for their out - <br /> standing work on the mural project as well as the additional hours of <br /> volunteer time contributed . <br /> The Recreation Staff is working the Sequoia High School again in develop- <br /> ing a career education program for Latino students . The program will <br /> begin in March . <br /> Red Morton Center <br /> Noon-Time Activities - Hoover <br /> Hoover is doing very well with their noon - time program . Room 602 is <br /> always filled with students involved in carroms , chess , or darts . The <br /> students really enjoy having a place of their own for programs and music . <br /> The student council is now becoming active and the big event this month <br /> was the karate demonstration . <br /> McKinley <br /> Students have been involved with scavenger hunts , soccer games and co -ed <br /> dancing . Student council has been active in designing programs for their <br /> students . The disco dancing class went over well and most of the parti - <br /> cipants were boys . <br /> Kennedy <br /> This month , a structured disco dance class was offered . Over 100 teens <br /> signed up . Classes are set up monthly with 25 in a class . Interest and <br /> participation is very good . <br /> Junior High Dance <br /> Steve Rood from KFRC put on a record dance January 21 . Around 200 stu - <br /> dents enjoyed the music plus the open game rooms . Parents felt the <br /> dance was well supervised . <br /> - 10- <br />
