PARKS DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT JANUARY 1977 The Park Division personnel continue with the normal grounds and facility maintenance activities during the month of January . Additionally , several special jobs were undertaken and completed . Special assignments included such items as : the repair of the tennis court surfaces at Mezes Park , the installation of play apparatus in the pla;;% area adjacent to the Red Morton Recreation Center , the installation of picnic table and trash containers at Laurie Duncan Parkway , and the renovation of the bleacher area on the first - base side of Hawes Park . The tree trimming crews were kept busy during the rain and wind storm which struck Redwood City on January 2 , 1977 . During the period of the storm , crews responded to numerous requests for tree removals , tree stak- ing and fallen branch and debris removal . The Redwood Shores crew pro- vided assistance to the forestry crew this month by pruning out a number of street trees in this area . The crew also assisted in the restaking and removal of trees in parks and landscape medians that were damaged during the storm . In the area of training , the Department hosted a Park Operations Workshop sponsored by the California Parks and Recreation Society in cooperation with the San Mateo County Agricultural Department and the Plant Grow Corporation . Workshop topics included : fertilization , pesticide safety , weed control , and use of insecticides in the landscape . Parks Division personnel also had a opportunity to attend the 13th Annual Northern California Turf Grass and Environmental Landscape Exposition sponsored by the Northern California Turf Grass Conference and held at the San Mateo Fair Grounds . This annual event serves to introduce many new turf and landscape products to the landscape industry and provide some interchange between professionals in the field and the manufacturers of the new equipment . - 9 -
