Center Operations Monthly Report ( cont . ) <br /> Peninsula Sport Group For The Orthopedically Handicapped - After <br /> about 4 months of organizing and planning , the Wheelers ( handi - <br /> capped bowling league ) and other interested handicapped persons <br /> in the area finally formed the Peninsula Sport Group . The group <br /> is headed by an eight person board of directors with an Advisor <br /> from the Recreation Department . The goal or purpose of the organi - <br /> zation is to promote leisure activities for orthopedically handi - <br /> capped people in the community . A schedule has been worked out for <br /> the year and will be published soon with highlights for May 21st ; <br /> a games day here at the Veterans Memorial Building and the surround- <br /> ing grounds . Also the group has been asked to help with the National <br /> Wheel Chair Games coming up June 16 , 17 & 18 at DeAnza College . Monthly <br /> events will be featured for activity and the group now has about 30 <br /> members . <br /> Dysphasic Program - The program for working with dysphasic children <br /> at Hawes Annex in Kennedy Junior High School has been very success - <br /> ful . It runs two days a week for an hour each day . Thursdays is <br /> spent at Red Morton Gym and Fridays in the school . Approximately <br /> 25 to 30 children participate in this program . Activities include : <br /> arts and crafts , cooking , sports and low-organized games . <br /> Senior Citizens : <br /> Senior Advisory Group - The Redwood City Recreation Department is <br /> hosting February ' s meeting for the Senior Advisory Group ( a group <br /> of people working with Senior Citizens in 14 different cities in <br /> San Mateo County ) at the Veterans Memorial Building on February <br /> 2nd . The guest lecturer for the afternoon ( 2 : 00 to 4 : 00 p . m . ) is <br /> Jan DeMontesquiou from the Peninsula Center for the Blind . Her <br /> topic will be : Sensitizing Workers to the Partially Sighted and <br /> How to Assist Them . The group meets every other month at different <br /> senior facilities in San Mateo County . <br /> - 12 - <br />
