RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORTS
JANUARY 1977
COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES
After- School Sports ( Grades 4-6 )
Highlights of the January programs included a number of high -spirited ,
well coached basketball games on both the boys and girls levels . Scores
of many of the games have been close and several were decided by over-
time efforts . This indicates a balanced league .
Coanies continue to teach the basic fundamentals where sportsmanship ,
low- key competition , and fun for all are the order of the day .
Playoffs on both girls and boys levels will be held in early February
in order to determine City Champions .
After-School Sports ( Grades 7 & 8 )
A highly successful program resumed after the Christmas vacation and
is in full swing on both boys and girls levels .
Teams representing each of the three ( 3 ) Junior High Schools have been
competing twice weekly to determine which of the top four ( 4 ) teams
( determined by final won/ loss record ) shall advance to the Shaughnessey
Playoffs in early February .
Roving Leaders ( Spring Programs )
Currently , a task force of Recreation Leaders is being formed to plan
out the Roving Leader programs at the Elementary School level . This
program will be conducted during the latter part of February and into
March .
On the Junior High level , the girls will be organizing bowling leagues .
The boys program will include a month of volleyball and hunch basketball .
- 13 -
