RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT FEBRUARY 1977 COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES After School Sports ( Grades 4-6 ) February highlights included the final basketball games and tourna- ments in order to determine the City Champions in both boys and girls divisions . The season went very well with only one ( 1 ) team going through the season undefeated in any of the leagues . The final results were : Girls 4- 6 League - Bubble Gum Basketeers ( Henry Ford ) 24 , Sophisti - cated Ladies ( Fair Oaks -Hoover ) 11 . Boys 4th & 5th League - Taft Bullets 25 , Hoover Hawks 23 . Boys 6th League - Hoover Nets 28 , Selby Lane Lakers 24 . Both the boys playoff champions finished in 3rd place during regular season play while the girls champion was the only team city-wide to every go through a complete season and playoffs undefeated . After School Sports ( Grades 7 -8 ) The Junior High Basketball Season came to an end with final Shaughnessey tournament play on both girls and boys level of play . Final results : Girls Division - Hoover #2 over Hoover #1 by 36 - 11 . Both Hoover teams finished in 1st and 2nd place during the regular season with the only previous losses suffered when playing each other . Boys 7th Division - McKinley Bullets over the Kennedy Celtics 40-36 . Boys 8th Division - McKinley Celtics over the Kennedy Nuggets (with the winning basket a 30 foot shot at the buzzer ) 46-45 . Coming Events : Elementary - Hunch Basketball local school playoffs underway with the final city-wide tournament at Sequoia , Saturday , March 5 . Junior High - Individual programs at each school 1 ) McKinley -- Flag Football for girls ( their own choice ) , and volleyball for boys . 2 ) Hoover - Drop- in programs three days a week for girls and volleyball for boys . 3 ) Kennedy - Girls bowling league and gymnastics ; boys are playing volleyball . -20-
