RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> FEBRUARY 1977 <br /> COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES <br /> After School Sports ( Grades 4-6 ) <br /> February highlights included the final basketball games and tourna- <br /> ments in order to determine the City Champions in both boys and girls <br /> divisions . <br /> The season went very well with only one ( 1 ) team going through the <br /> season undefeated in any of the leagues . The final results were : <br /> Girls 4- 6 League - Bubble Gum Basketeers ( Henry Ford ) 24 , Sophisti - <br /> cated Ladies ( Fair Oaks -Hoover ) 11 . Boys 4th & 5th League - Taft <br /> Bullets 25 , Hoover Hawks 23 . Boys 6th League - Hoover Nets 28 , <br /> Selby Lane Lakers 24 . <br /> Both the boys playoff champions finished in 3rd place during regular <br /> season play while the girls champion was the only team city-wide to <br /> every go through a complete season and playoffs undefeated . <br /> After School Sports ( Grades 7 -8 ) <br /> The Junior High Basketball Season came to an end with final Shaughnessey <br /> tournament play on both girls and boys level of play . <br /> Final results : Girls Division - Hoover #2 over Hoover #1 by 36 - 11 . <br /> Both Hoover teams finished in 1st and 2nd place during the regular <br /> season with the only previous losses suffered when playing each other . <br /> Boys 7th Division - McKinley Bullets over the Kennedy Celtics 40-36 . <br /> Boys 8th Division - McKinley Celtics over the Kennedy Nuggets (with <br /> the winning basket a 30 foot shot at the buzzer ) 46-45 . <br /> Coming Events : <br /> Elementary - Hunch Basketball local school playoffs underway with the <br /> final city-wide tournament at Sequoia , Saturday , March 5 . <br /> Junior High - Individual programs at each school <br /> 1 ) McKinley -- Flag Football for girls ( their own choice ) , <br /> and volleyball for boys . <br /> 2 ) Hoover - Drop- in programs three days a week for girls <br /> and volleyball for boys . <br /> 3 ) Kennedy - Girls bowling league and gymnastics ; boys <br /> are playing volleyball . <br /> -20- <br />
