REDWOOD CITY PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MEETING OF MARCH 9 , 1977 <br /> The regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission was called to <br /> order by Chairperson Pound at 7 : 37 p , m . , in Conference Room 1 of the <br /> Community Activities Building , 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , Redwood City . <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT : Commissioners Anderson , Buckhout , Hayes , Knecht <br /> Pound , Weintraub <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT : Commissioner Schlesinger (Arrived at 8 : 13 p . m . ) <br /> STAFF PRESENT : Director Max C . Weeks <br /> Superintendent Pasco A . Balzarini <br /> Superintendent Bill Paulson <br /> MOTION : Commissioner Knecht moved to accept the minutes <br /> of the February 9 , 1977 , Regular Business Meeting , <br /> seconded by Commissioner Weintraub , The following <br /> correction was made on Page 4 - Report Item 1 - <br /> Paragraph 1 : change from Creative Employment Train- <br /> ing Act to Comprehensive Employment Training Act . <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote . <br /> CORRESPONDENCE <br /> Chairperson Pound indicated that she had received , for the entire Com- <br /> mission , complimentary tickets to the Antique Show and Sale , conducted <br /> by the Peninsula Hills Junior Women ' s Club on March 18 , 19 & 20 . <br /> AGENDA ITEM 1 , Proposed Junior High School Recreation Program <br /> Mr . Paulson briefed the Commission on the status of the proposed pilot <br /> recreation program . He indicated that the staff had recommended Hoover <br /> to be the site of the program . The program will be designed to increase <br /> the amount of leisure activities for the students . He briefly discussed <br /> the various goals and objectives of the program . He indicated that one <br /> of the key elements of the program is to utilize parent , teacher and <br /> community volunteers . Chairperson Pound felt that support from the <br /> parents , whether they volunteer or not , would be crucial . Mr . Paulson <br /> hoped the program would provide greater service to the community groups <br /> as far as utilizing school facilities such as soccer fields and school <br /> rooms . Some problems that occur with community groups using school facili - <br /> ties , however , are excessive litter and vandalism . Ideas to curtail these <br /> problems will be taken into consideration in the development of this project , <br />
