RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> JULY 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS <br /> Red Morton Recreation Center <br /> Youth Awareness Workshop- On August 1 , the Red Morton staff attended a <br /> Bay Area Teen Staff ( B . A . T . S . ) Workshop called "Youth Awareness " . Emily <br /> Garfield , from Stanford University , assisted in the sessions . Group <br /> counselors , working with the Juvenile Diversion Program , shared their <br /> experiences . Social problems were emphasized in the workshop including <br /> the use of recreation as a socialization agent . <br /> Taking Care of Kids - Taking Care of Kids was originated two years ago . <br /> The purpose of this program is to provide babysitting jobs for teens <br /> between the ages of 11 & 15 . Over 250 babysitting jobs have been <br /> referred since the beginning of the program . This program not only <br /> helps teens with jobs , but it also enables the community to contact <br /> the Center when in need of a sitter . <br /> Volunteers - The Red Morton Teen Volunteers continue to donate their <br /> time during the summer months . Some of their duties include vacuuming , <br /> washing windows , answering phones , taking messages and assisting with <br /> the tiny tots and grade school programs . On July 25 , the Community <br /> Activities Building personnel used the volunteers to help prepare <br /> Pinewood Derby Kits . <br /> Summer Programs - The staff decided to change its activities during <br /> the summer months . Fifty percent of the activities are geared for <br /> teens and the other half for grade school and tiny tots . Last year <br /> teens were in the gym and game rooms alot . This year we offer Whiffle <br /> Ball , Foos Ball and Ping Pong Tournaments , besides the use of the <br /> facilities . Trips have also been planned . The first trip was to <br /> Santa Cruz on July 21 , with a full group attending . Future trips <br /> will be to Great America and again to Santa Cruz . <br /> Saturday Recreation Day- This summer a recreation leader has been <br /> available on Saturdays from 11 : 00 a . m . to 4 : 00 p . m . The leader ' s <br /> main responsibilities are to inform participants in Community Park <br /> that the gym , game room and pool room are open , to assist in setting <br /> up the outside volleyball net , and to organize additional recreation <br /> activities if needed . <br /> - 12 - <br />
