Presentation - Career Training - Sequoia High School
Ms . Sally Hartman introduced Mrs . Suzanne Reese , consultant for the
Sequoia Union High School District for the development of career train -
ing . She has been working with the Department for the past two years
on the GUIDE Program ( Guide to Utilize Information through Decision
making about Employment ) . Mrs . Reese indicated that the idea for GUIDE
originated in the Parks & Recreation Department . She had had a meeting
with several members of the Department and Ms . Priscilla Mosher brought
to the attention of Mrs . Reese that Latino students had seldom if ever
applied for employment with the Recreation Department . Ms . Mosher had
wondered whether the Latino and other minority students knew about the
job opportunities or whether it was because they did not have the skills
for the job . She inquired if a skills training program could be devel -
oped . The Sequoia Union High School District and the Industry Education
Council ( the agency which funds the program ) coordinated their efforts
to make the GUIDE Program .
A slide presentation was given explaining how the program is run . The
first session began in the spring of 76 . Various members of the Depart-
ment participated in the program in the areas of planning , organizing ,
orientation and interviewing .
- 1 -
