One of the most popular sessions entitled Steps to Seeking Employment
was held at the Veterans Building . Tips on interviewing , proper groom-
ing , proper attitudes during the interview , and the completion of
various job applications were discussed with the students . Afterwards ,
interviews with the students and various citizens of the community were
held .
The students were taken to various areas in the community including
the Municipal Services Center where a tour of the park offices and the
Water Department was held . Other areas includes were the Fire Depart-
ment , the San Mateo County Sheriff ' s Department , the Court House , where
the students were involved in a mock jury trial , the San Francisco Air-
port , Wells Fargo Bank , and several other locations regarding career
opportunities .
( COMMISSIONER WEINTRAUB ARRIVED AT 8 : 12 p . m . )
Discussion continued on the ideas for next year ' s session and the other
programs run in the District for minority students . Commissioner Pound
asked whether or not the program was just for Latino students or if
other students could attend . Mrs . Reese indicated that the program ,
although generated for the Latino students , was available to other
students through individual teacher programming .
Chairman Schlesinger thanked Mrs . Reese for her presentation of the
GUIDE Program to the Commission .
AGENDA ITEM 2 . Review of Proposed Development - Red Morton Park
Mr . Weeks reviewed with the Commission the status of the applications
for the State funds . He indicated that the Design & Development Com-
mittee had met on Monday , October 10 in order to discuss in detail
the possibilities for development of Red Morton Park .
Commissioner Weintraub , Chairman of the Design & Development Committee ,
commented that an updating of the Master Site Plan is needed for the
Red Morton Park . The Commission discussed the firms available for
design and plans ; however , it was decided to continue with Singer &
Hodges because of the fine results received from them , the working
relationship that the Department has with the firm and the length
of time they have been working with the Department toward the develop -
ment of several of the park areas .
Mr . Weeks discussed the several elements of the plan that Phase IV
development would accomplish in Red Morton Park : the building of
the parking lot adjacent to the Red Morton Recreation Center ; the
lighting of the ball fields ; the lighting of the new tennis courts ;
the development of family and group picnic sites in various areas
around the park and the improvement of the play area near Bechet Field .
- 2-
