RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT <br /> NOVEMBER 1977 <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTEREST CLASSES <br /> Red Morton Center <br /> Highlights for the month of November at the Red Morton Center included <br /> a sell out Junior High Dance on November 18 with disco music provided <br /> by B . J . the D . J . ; a volunteer training session on November 19 , for 15 <br /> volunteers ; and the Wednesday evening Junior High Program . The volun - <br /> teer training covered introduction to Department staff , an explanation <br /> of the teen volunteer program , tour of the Department facilities and <br /> park , review of rules and policies , telephone procedures and a question <br /> and answer period . The Wednesday night specials included " new games " , <br /> pop corn sculpture and turkey crafts . Our Recreation Program Coordinator , <br /> Bob Heavey , resigned in November and recruiting has begun to fill the <br /> position . <br /> Veterans Building <br /> Redwood City Community Theater ' s run of " Star Spangled Girl " was com- <br /> pleted and rehearsals have been in progress for " Hansel and Gretel " to <br /> be held December 9 , 10 , 11 , 16 , and 17 . <br /> Hoover School Program <br /> The new recreation program at Hoover is moving along well with the <br /> addition of two full - time recreation leaders under the CETA program . <br /> Two recreation programs have been opened at lunch time - one for the <br /> Junior High students and one for the elementary . An after-school <br /> soccer team has been formed and has played several games with McKinley <br /> School . An elementary age basketball team is being formed for the <br /> first time in several years and the Tuesday evening recreation pro - <br /> gram is continuing . Plans are well underway for scheduling a full <br /> round of activities at Hoover during the Christmas holidays . <br /> -9- <br />
