PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 9 , 1977 <br /> The regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Commission was called to <br /> order by Chairman Schlesinger at 7 : 36 p . m . , in Conference Room 1 of <br /> the Community Activities Building , 1400 Roosevelt Avenue , Redwood City . <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT : Commissioners Anderson , Hayes , Knecht , Pound , <br /> Schlesinger , Weintraub <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT : Commissioner Buckhout <br /> STAFF PRESENT : Max C . Weeks , Director <br /> Bill Paulson , Recreation Superintendent <br /> Dane Jones , Project Director <br /> CITIZEN PRESENT : Steve Morelli , Target Education Welfare Council <br /> MOTION : Commissioner Anderson moved , seconded by Com- <br /> missioner Hayes , to accept the minutes of the <br /> October 12 , 1977 , Regular Business Meeting . <br /> The motion carried unanimously by voice vote . <br /> Mr . Weeks indicated that the Project Director for the Hoover School <br /> Community Recreation Project was in attendance tonight . Mr . Paulson <br /> reminded the Commission of the formulation and background for the <br /> Hoover School Project . He gave a review of the qualities looked for <br /> in the CETA candidates interviewed and the qualifications for the posi - <br /> tion . He then introduced Dane Jones , who was chosen for the job . <br /> Mr . Jones gave a background of his recreational leadership experience <br /> during the past few years . He indicated the program is designed to <br /> utilize Hoover School for a community recreation facility for the <br /> citizens on the east side of Redwood City . He hopes to develop a <br /> Community Advisory Committee in order to initiate community input . <br /> Two primary problems that he is facing are : 1 ) Budgetary - CETA has <br /> supplied funds for hiring personnel but there are no funds to run any <br /> of the activities . Discussions are underway to obtain CETA funds for <br /> the various activities planned for the project ; and 2 ) Minority stu - <br /> dents - The black and chicano communities have not demonstrated willing- <br /> ness to work together . He feels this is the major obstacle to overcome <br /> in order to have the program run smoothly and be successful . <br /> - 1 - <br />
