Commissioner Knecht inquired if this was a year-round program . Mr . Paulson indicated that it was funded through September 3 , 1978 , through the CETA program as far as leadership is concerned . It will again be evaluated at budget time . Mr . Jones indicated that two CETA recreation leaders have been hired for the program . They are a Puerto Rican woman who speaks spanish fluently and a black man . These two recreation leaders will be work - ing full time . He further indicated that the noon -time program was going well with over 70 students attending . Mr . Weeks reported that Mr . Jones will also be working with the YMCA who has a funded program at Hoover School . The Department hopes to coordinate the programs together in special areas for the greatest results . Commissioner Hayes inquired if Mr . Jones has attempted to get the older students involved with the program in a leadership role . He indicated that he has implemented a program with some of the older students working with the recreation leaders . Mr . Weeks reminded the Commission that this is an experimental program and that Mr . Jones is there to evaluate all aspects of the program . Mr . Weeks introduced Mr . Steve Morelli from Target Education Welfare Council who has been hired by CETA to look into the possibility of a community garden program in the Fair Oaks area . Chairman Schlesinger thanked Mr . Jones and Mr . Morelli for attending the meeting . AGENDA ITEM 1 . Discussion of Concept to Increased Community Input Mr . Weeks indicated that the Community & Commission Relations Committee had met to discuss the pros and cons , and options of the opportunities to utilize the past Commissioners for community involvement . Commissioner Schlesinger , Chairman of the Community & Commission Rela - tions Committee , indicated that the Committee felt that this could be very useful and felt it would be beneficial to have a group which could be called upon to assist with committees and other community input . One of the suggestions made by the Committee was to perhaps next fall after the completion of the Community Pool , Red Morton Phase IV , and Canyon Park hold a barbecue , and invite past Commissioners in order to update the Commissioners on what the City has been accomplishing during the past several years . This could also produce new input . The Commis - sion agreed that this was a good idea and that follow- up will be made . -2-
