Through reduced travel speeds, improved pedestrian facilities, and increased
awareness of children walking/bicycling, the community at large is more likely to
choose active forms of transportation —increasing their personal health, reducing
negative impacts on others (emissions, noise, etc.), and building a stronger sense
of community by interacting with others who are walking and bicycling in the
neighborhood. In Redwood City, where school playing fields are used for
community-wide sports, these improvements will reach beyond the immediate
neighbors and school community.
c. Does the project support existing economic activity and/or new economic
development in the immediate vicinity?
All of the schools are in developed, residential neighborhoods within Redwood
City. Although we would not expect these improvements to trigger redevelopment
into higher residential densities or into mixed uses, increasing the walkability of the
neighborhoods makes the housing stock more desirable, potentially increasing the
property values and strengthening the economic base for the City and its residents.
PROJECT CONTACT INFORMATION
Primary Contact Person: Jessica Manzi, PE
Title: Senior Transportation Coordinator
Telephone Number: 650-780-7372
Email Address:jmanzi@redwoodcity.org
Secondary Contact Person: Susan Wheeler
Title: Management Analyst
Telephone Number: 650-780-7245
Email Address: swheeler@redwoodcity.org

REV:09-04-14 VR 27
ATTY/AGR/2014.160/SAN MATEO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY
