Reservation of spaces for car
sharing will result in a loss of parking meter revenue, currently estimated at $1200 per
space per year. In the future, the City may wish to charge a permit fee to offset the
administrative costs of the program and the loss of meter revenue.
Electric charging fees are estimated to increase the City's net annual revenue from the
program by approximately $16,000, but the results could vary depending on drivers'
response to the new fees and the availability of other (free) charging stations.
Code changes around the temporary reservation of metered parking spaces would
offset the administrative cost to process the permits and to provide no parking signs and
compensate for potential losses to meter revenue. These changes could result in a
slight increase in revenue as most parking spaces aren't fully occupied from 10 am to 6
pm.
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW
As the lead agency under CEQA, the City of Redwood City has determined that the
action recommended in this staff report does not constitute a project as defined by the
CEQA Guidelines.
(i7
JESSICA MANZI
SENIOR TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR
AARON AKNIN
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR
ROBERT B.
