Abbott Labs has committed to the <br /> "Council" that their highly skilled, decently paid construction workers receiving <br /> quality health care and pension benefits will be employed to build this project. <br /> This project represents hundreds of jobs for members living in Redwood City <br /> and San Mateo County. In addition to the construction jobs, this project will <br /> bring approximately 500 permanent jobs to the residents of Redwood City. He <br /> urged approval of the zoning map and zoning text amendments allowing the <br /> project to move forward. <br /> William Conklin, resident of Redwood City and Chairman of the Board of <br /> Directors of Marine Science Institute, stating that this is a dream come true for <br /> the Institute providing a permanent place. Thousands of children have been <br /> educated and this would provide the knowledge that the Institute is a resident <br /> of Redwood City and will be available to children on the Peninsula and the Bay <br /> Area. He strongly urged the Council to approve the proposal. <br /> M/S Howard/Hartnett to close the public hearing. The motion passed by a <br /> unanimous voice vote. <br />'-. Recommendation <br /> M/S FoustlBain <br /> Council Members stated that the proposal brings to the city jobs, training, and <br /> research capabilities and to have the research center of a Fortune 100 company like <br /> Abbott, is a fantastic opportunity. A suggestion was made that the design be less <br /> mundane than presented. <br /> 1. Find that the proposed Zoning Map Amendment is in the public interest and <br /> approve the Zoning Map Amendment from the General Industrial (FI) Zoning <br /> District to the Industrial Restricted (IR) Zoning District.
