Chairman Schlesinger thanked Mr. Littlefield for his presence at the meeting. � AGENDA ITEM 3. Sale of Elementary School Site - Robertson Wa,�z Hill� crest Way, and Eastview Wa - Open Space Committee Mr. Weeks informed the Commission that the Department received a letter from the Redwood City School District indicating their desire to sell undeveloped school sites, one at Canada Road and Godida Drive in Wood- side; and the other, a 10-acre site in Emerald Hills with frontages on Robertson Way, Hillcrest Way, and Eastview Way. The School District is required by state law to notify the City and County Parks and Reerea- tion Departments of their desire to sell in order that these agencies have an opportunity to purchase the land before it is put on the open market. The Open Space Committee met on this subject and drove to the site for inspection. Mr. Weeks pointed out the sites in question on a map. The area is quite inaccessible to the majority of the City. The Co►r�nittee felt that the site is not conducive to serving Redwood City residents to any great capacity. Since the Committee meeting, Mr. Weeks has discussed the sites with Mr. Mattison, Director of San Mateo County Parks and Recreation. It was indicated that the County turned down the offer because the Redwood City School District wanted fair market value for the property and the County was not willing to pay it. The Committee recomnended that the County and the Mid-Peninsula Regional Park District be encouraged to consider working together on the possible purchase of the site along with their consideration for the purchase of the State college site (adjacent to the undeveloped school site). Mr. Weeks indicated he would send the Correnission's recommendation to the Manager for response from the City to the School District. AGENDA ITEM 4. Revision of Parks & Recreation Element of General Plan- Open Space Comnittee It was the consensus of the Commission to carry this agenda item over to February's Commission meeting. -3-
