There were 1 ,500 walkers and <br /> $70,000 worth of pledges. Not only was the walk� successful in walkers <br /> and pledges but the community cooperation was at its best. Thanks to <br /> Redwood City & Menlo Park Police Departments, National Guards, Marines, <br /> Red Cross, REACT, Redwood CIty School District, Chamber of Comnerce, <br /> Redwood City Tribune, Sheriffs Department and Probation Officers of <br /> San Mateo County, McDonalds of Menlo Park, Coca-Cola of Belmont, and <br /> a special thanks to the administration and recreation leaders of the <br /> Redwood City �Parks & Recreation Department. It was truly a community <br /> spirit toward the fight of birth defects. <br /> Track Meet <br /> All City Elementary Track Meet was held Saturday, April 22, at Woodside <br /> High School . There were two weeks practice at the elementary schools � <br /> to prepare the participants for the meet. An estimated 150 elementary <br /> students participated with the largest turnout of parents ever of 75 to <br /> 100. Results of the meet will be announced in the Redwood City Tribune. <br /> Summer Jobs <br /> Interviews for sumner jobs have concluded as of April 3. Playgrounds, <br /> Day Camps and Aquatics staff will start in-service training on June 19. <br /> Seventy-five (75) part-time employees will begin work in the Summer <br /> Programs on June 26. <br /> Roving Leaders <br /> The Roving Leaders Program ended on April 7 at Edison, Fair Oaks, and <br /> Garfield. The schools averaged 125 students per day. On April 24, ' <br /> the Roving Leader Program will be at Taft, Selby Lane and Washington <br /> Schools. <br /> -8- <br />
