' <br /> CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTERESTS <br /> Spring classes started during the week of April 3. Registration for <br /> most of the classes was good with the exceptiort�n�f bowling, basic <br /> backpacking, bicycle maintenance, and one cake decorating class which <br /> were cancelled. Disco dance proved an overwhelming success. The <br /> limit of 30 students was reached on the first day of mail-in regis- <br /> tration followed by approximateiy 100 additional registrations which <br /> had to be refunded. Due to the overwhelming response, two classes <br /> are planned for the summer. <br /> Community Activities Building <br /> The Annual Peninsula Rose Show was held on April 30. The Peninsula <br /> Hills Junior Women's Club Annual Antique Show was held on April 14, <br /> 15, and 16. <br /> Veterans Memorial Building <br /> Two new adult education classes were started for seniors: Exercise to <br /> Music and Arts and Crafts. These are in addition to Great Museums of <br /> the World, Lip Reading and Sewing. Sequoia Adult School offers all of <br /> their programs free to seniors. <br /> The Friends of the Library Book Sale was held April 7, 8, and 9. Mock <br /> Wheelchair Games for the physically handicapped were held on Apri1 22 <br /> and 23. <br /> Hoover Recreation Program <br /> The noontime, after-school and evening programs continued with much <br /> success. The staff is working now on a special program for Cinco de <br /> Mayo to be held on May 4, at the school . <br /> GUIDE Program <br /> The GUIDE Career Development Program ended on April 6, with a special <br /> program at the Fair Oaks Corrnnunity Center for all the participants and <br /> their parents and relatives. All but three students attended. Suzanne <br /> Reese from the Sequoia District Office presented an excellent slide <br /> show which she and the students had prepared depicting all the sessions. <br /> The Park and Recreation Department presented recognition certificates <br /> to all the students and refreshments prepared by Sequoia FEAST program <br /> were served. <br /> -6- <br />
