,.� �. � � <br /> � <br /> PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF JULY 18, 1978 <br /> The special meeting of the Parks & Recreation Comnission was called to <br /> order by Chairman Schlesinger at 7:43 p.m. , in the Conference Room <br /> of the Comnunity Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood <br /> c;ty. � <br /> MEMBERS PRESENT: Commissioners Anderson, Castle, Pound, <br /> Schlesinger, Weintraub (COMMISSIONER HAYES <br /> ARRIVED AT 7:55 p.m.) <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT: Corr�nissioner Knecht, Hayes <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Max C. Weeks, Parks & Recreation Director <br /> GUEST PRESENT: Phil Singer, Landscape Architect Consultant <br /> for the Canyon Park Pro3ect. <br /> Chairman Schlesinger welcomed Mr. Singer to the meeting. <br /> Mr. Weeks indicated that the meeting was called to re-evaluate the <br /> Canyon Park Project and to discuss the options and possibilities <br /> of keeping the project active by reducing the area for initial <br /> development and minimum maintenance. <br /> He reviewed the Master Plan for reference during the evening's <br /> discussion. This Master Plan was approved by the City Council in <br /> May of 1976. Mr. Singer reviewed the completed working drawings <br /> for Canyon Park, which were approved by the Council in April of <br /> 1977. He indicated that the cost of constructing the park was <br /> based on April 1977 figures and to complete the park now as <br /> originally proposed would cost an additional 12% for inflation. <br /> The estimate in 1977 to construct the park was $160,000 and now <br /> would be approximately $180,000. Mr. Weeks indicated that this <br /> figure would include engineering and contigency costs. <br /> Discussion continued on the possibility of obtaining funds from <br /> the City to inciude a portion of the Hetch-Hetchy Right-of-Way. <br /> Mr. Singer explained that if no work is done on the Hetch-Hetchy, <br /> access to the park would be greatly limited. He feels the channel <br /> near the front of the park should be covered if any development <br /> is done and some grading should be done in that area also. <br /> Other options discussed during the meeting. One was to develop <br /> two acres of the park in the area of the proposed parking lot and <br /> obtain minimal funds from the City to include a portion of the <br /> Hetch-Hetchy Right-of-Way. _ Another option is to keep the basic <br />
