f 1 � � <br /> PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION <br /> MINUTES OF AUGUST 9, 1978 <br /> The regular meeting of the Parks & Recreation Cor�nission was called to <br /> order by Chairman Schlesinger at 7:35 p.m. , in Room 1 of the Community <br /> Activities Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City. <br /> MEMBERS PRESEN�: Commissioners Anderson, Hayes, Knecht, Pound, <br /> Schlesinger, Weintraub <br /> MEMBERS ABSENT: Commissioner Castle <br /> STAFF PRESENT: Max C. Weeks, Parks & Recreation Director <br /> GUESTS PRESENT: Mr. Robert Spillers <br /> Mr. Ron Dowling <br /> Mr. Lou Maserie <br /> Bill Anderson <br /> MOTION: Commissioner Anderson moved, seconded by Commis- <br /> sioner Hayes, to accept the minutes of the July <br /> 12, 1978, Regular Business Meeting. The motion <br /> passed unanimously by voice vote. <br /> P�r. Weeks introduced Mr. Robert Spillers, Chairman of the Police Youth <br /> Club, and Mr. Ron Dowling, Coordinator of the Club. He indicated that <br /> the contractor, Mr. Lou Maserie, was enroute to the meeting. <br /> AGENDA ITEM 1 . PRESENTATION BY THE P.Y.C. - BUILDING EXPANSION <br /> Mr. Weeks indicated that a few months ago, the Police Youth Club requested <br /> the City Manager to consider their proposed expansion of their facility. <br /> He indicated that the P.Y.C. are ready to launch a full phased project <br /> which will include the construction of a gymnasium, restroom facilities, <br /> locker and dressing rooms, and showers. <br /> The Department has been in contact with Mr. Maserie to determine what <br /> effects the expansion of the P.Y.C. would have on the proposed expansion <br /> of the Community Swimming Pool and to assure coordination of the projects. <br /> Commissioner Weintraub indicated that she did not wish to see open space <br /> covered over by new building. She inquired if the Police Youth Club - <br /> needed as much space as proposed for the expansion. Mr. Dowling indi- <br /> cated that in order to meet the needs of the Redwood City youth, and to <br /> maintain the special interest classes, they will need more room. The <br /> existing Police Youth Club contains 4,000 sq. feet and the proposed <br /> development is for an additional 10,000 sq. feet. <br /> -1- <br />
