.
 .
 ;
RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORT
SEPTEMBER 1978
CENTER OPERATIONS & SPECIAL INTERESTS
Receptions and weekend activities continued as usual at the C.A.B. and
the Veterans Building. Rental fees were increased and all groups were
notified that the new rates would be put into effect November 1 . The
Typist-Clerk was re-instated at the Veterans Building between the hours
of 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. which has relieved a considerable number of
problems that were occurring in the area uf supervision and reservation
responsibilities.
The Redwood City Budgie Hobbyists held their annual show at the C.A.B.
on October 7 and 8. Birds were entered from Seattle, Washington and
Arizona as well as California with nearly 300 entries overall .
The Operalunch Program resumed downtown on September 22, 29, October 6,
and 13, under the sponsorship of the Downtown Merchants Association,
the Redwood City Tribune, the San Mateo County Cultural Comnission and
the R.C. Civic Cultural Commission. The attendance has steadily improved
each week.
Fall registrations have generally been low and a large number of classes
have had to be cancelled due to lack of participants. Some of the classes
which have been cancelled include tennis (2 entire sessions of daytime
classes) , several dance classes, drama workshop, dog obedience, cake
decorating, breadmaking and bridge. .
Many comments received by the Department relate to the fact that they
never saw the brochure or they never look at the Ad-Visor and consequently
threw it out. GJe did not receive many comments regarding the fee increases.
-6-
