RECREATION DIVISION MONTHLY REPORTS <br /> MARCH 1976 <br /> COMMUNITY LEISURE SERVICES <br /> Supervisor : Don Burtz <br /> After - School Sports ( Grades 4 -6 ) <br /> During the first two weeks of March basketball tournaments were held on <br /> every level of play to determine city basketball champions . <br /> Teams based at Roosevelt School completed a highly spirited season by making <br /> a " clean sweep " of City league basketball titles on the fourth grade , fifth <br /> grade , and sixth grade levels of play . All three teams were named the Falcons . <br /> The elementary girls ' title went to the Temptations based at Hoover in an up- <br /> set game win over the regular season champion Globetrotters based at Clifford . <br /> After- School Sports ( Grades 7 -8 ) <br /> Again , championship tournaments were conducted at the Junior High level in <br /> seventh , eighth , and girls ' levels . <br /> Teams based at Hoover School ( the Dynamites ) took the eighth grade champion - <br /> ship and a McKinley ( Lakers ) based team captured the seventh grade title <br /> and the Darling Dollies , based at Kennedy , took the Junior High girls ' crown . <br /> Roving Leaders ( Grades 4- 6 ) <br /> Three teams of roving leaders began our new Roving Leader Program on March 15th <br /> at nine elementary schools . Each team has the responsibility of providing <br /> programs at two separate elementary schools in a weekly rotating pattern . <br /> The program will include : parachute and earthball , games , candlemaking , and <br /> tye - dyeing , kite -making , and skateboard contests . <br /> Participation during the first two weeks of this program has been excellent <br /> at the majority of school sites . Nearly 100 - 150 students have turned out <br /> each week for these special activities . <br /> Roving Leaders ( Grades 7 -8 ) <br /> Each Junior High has a team of four leaders assigned to plan and conduct <br /> special interest programs for their assigned school . <br /> This program will be conducted after school for a six-week period of time <br /> and leaders do not rotate from school to school as they do on the elementary <br /> level . <br /> - 10 - <br />
